Former Animal Services Director for Lubbock to Face Trial for Theft Charges

Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office

A former animal services director for the City of Lubbock will face trial in Lubbock on a number of charges.

Kevin Wayne Overstreet was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma in late April. When police ran a records check on him he was found to be a Fugitive from Justice due to charges against him in Lubbock.  Overstreet was extradited back to Lubbock in May to face those charges against him.

After being sent back to Lubbock, Overstreet was indicted on three felony theft counts.  One count is for allegedly writing hot checks in June and July of 2013.  The other two counts are for allegedly taking money from individuals and not rendering services promised.  All three theft counts are for stealing money between $1500-$20,000.  According to records obtained by KFYO News, he was booked into, and bonded out of, the Lubbock County Jail on May 11, 2014.

Overstreet’s case was assigned to the 364th District Court with Judge Brad Underwood.  However, Judge Underwood signed an order on June 26, 2014 to recuse himself from the case.  In the recusal order, Judge Underwood asks for the Regional Presiding Judge to assign a judge to hear the case against Overstreet.

Kevin Overstreet once served as the City of Lubbock’s Emergency Management Director and Director of Animal Services.  He was fired from his position as Director of Animal Services with the City of Lubbock in November 2009.
