Lubbock's Preston Smith International Airport has been awarded a grant to improve a runway.

The airport will receive more than $26 million in federal grant funds for the runway rehabilitation.

The funds will be used to complete Phase 3 of east-west runway improvements, and conduct a preliminary engineering study on the north-south runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced the $26,078,786 grant late last week.

The airport runway improvement project involves the relocation of the east-west runway 2,000 feet to the east, so it will no longer intersect with the north-south runway.
