Evening Storms Bring Wall of Dirt to Lubbock and South Plains

Thursday evening’s storms brought a large wall of dirt to Lubbock and surrounding counties.  The haboob started crossing over into Lubbock County from Hockley County after 7 o’clock.

Winds weren’t too strong during the storm.  At the Texas Tech Mesonet site in Levelland, a peak wind gust of 46 mph was recorded. Here at the KFYO Studios, a peak wind gust of 35 mph was recorded.

The same storm complex that brought dirt to Lubbock caused some severe storms in the northwest South Plains. A 53 mph wind gust, and 0.3″ was recorded in Muleshoe.
