Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Gary Doolittle with the Esperanza Institute of Texas described their program that works to help the working poor in Lubbock get out of the poverty cycle.

Doolittle stated, "our mission is to empower the working poor of our community. We have a very low unemployment rate in Lubbock, Texas, but behind that is a high poverty level." He described the reason for this problem and how it is affecting individuals locally. He said, "we want to help people develop resources, skills, and revenue streams that at least start moving them towards getting out of the poverty cycle."
