The deadline for emergency unemployment insurance benefits has been extended.

Jobless Texans have until January 1st, 2014 to qualify for emergency unemployment insurance benefits.

This comes after federal legislation signed by President Barack Obama on January 2nd, 2013, extended benefits to around 120,000 Texans who would have exhausted their unemployment benefits on December 31st, 2012.

Emergency unemployment benefits provide temporary income for those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. The benefits are federally funded, and Texas employers will not be charged for any claims.

The legislation did not add any benefits for those that have already exhausted their regular state unemployment benefits, federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation, and Extended Benefits.

Those that currently receive unemployment insurance benefits can find updated information on their claims by logging on to ui.texasworkforce.org or by calling the Texas Workforce Commission Tele-Serve at 800-558-8321.
