Elizabeth Smart to Speak in Lubbock Next Week

A former kidnapping victim will speak in Lubbock next week.

Elizabeth Smart will speak at an “Evening of Inspiration” at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall on Monday, September 24^th, sponsored by Suddenlink.

Smart’s story was followed by millions as she was abducted on June 5^th, 2002, and her captors controlled her by threatening to kill her and her family if she attempted to escape.

Smart was returned to her family by police on March 12, 2003, 9 months after her abduction. She now advocates for change related to child abduction, recovery programs, and legislation.

The event will run from 6:45 until 8 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center of the South Plains.
