A former kidnapping victim will speak in Lubbock next week.

Elizabeth Smart will speak at an “Evening of Inspiration” at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall on Monday, September 24th, sponsored by Suddenlink.

Smart’s story was followed by millions as she was abducted on June 5th, 2002, and her captors controlled her by threatening to kill her and her family if she attempted to escape.

Smart was returned to her family by police on March 12, 2003, 9 months after her abduction. She now advocates for change related to child abduction, recovery programs, and legislation.

The event will run from 6:45 until 8 p.m.

Tickets are $35, and are available at all Select-a-Seat outlets at 770-2000 or at www.selectaseatlubbock.com.

Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center of the South Plains.
