Right now, the chamber is working with a development company to conduct a feasibility study for the performing arts center. The study will include a needs assessment, which would determine such things as the number of seats and the features the performing arts center would need.
“I think everyone in the arts community recognizes the need for a new facility. We have several facilities around the community, but I don’t think they meet…the perceived needs of the arts community.”
The study should take around 5 or 6 months, after which the chamber will begin conducting interviews to find out what a new performing arts center needs. There was no word on when the center will be completed or how it will be funded, however McBride and Collins mentioned the DPS site as a possible location.
If you would like to contact the Chamber of Commerce about the new performing arts center, E-mail them at info@lubbockbiz.org or call 761-7000.
