Eddie Dixon, Vietnam veteran and internationally recognized sculptor, spoke with Paul R. Beane about the Lubbock Oil and Gas Committee during today's edition of the Chad Hasty Show on KFYO. Dixon also spoke about his sculpting and past military service.

Regarding fracking, Dixon described the differences between Northern and Southern geography as the reason some reports may have been chosen by those opposed to this type of drilling. He noted that the Texas Railroad Commission has helped to ensure regulations surrounding the effects of fracking.

The Lubbock Oil and Gas Committee will report to the city council today with general progress and plans made. Dixon stated that all members of the committee had contributed to the report, but that more meetings will be necessary to cover continuing progress.

Dixon and Beane also discussed the Stand Your Ground laws, civil rights, and North and East Lubbock development.

Dixon, who toured twice with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, described some of his experiences, including the cause of respiratory problems originating from defoliation spray.

Dixon related this message as a way to overcome many problems being presented locally and nationally:

We’re having these problems and it doesn’t seem like they are going to be resolved any time soon. We shouldn’t play on opportunities to cause division. People have to understand that if we’re going to make it anywhere in the world again—if it’s not too late for us—we’re going to have to do it united.”

Many of Dixon's sculptures can be found around the world, including here in Lubbock.
