Monday afternoon, Governor Greg Abbott's office announced an appointment to fill the 51st Judicial District Court.

Governor Abbott appointed San Angelo lawyer Carmen Dusek to fill the judicial vacancy. The 51st District Court hears cases from Tom Green, Sterling, Schleicher, Irion and Coke counties. Her term will expire on either December 31, 2020, or when a successor is elected and qualified.

Dusek is a graduate of the Texas Tech University School of Law.

Carmen Symes Dusek of San Angelo is senior counsel at Jackson Walker, LLP. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, National Association of Counsel for Children, and the Defense Research Institute and fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. She is former vice president of the Tom Green County Bar Association, former nominations committee member of the Texas Association of Defense Council, and a former member of the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the Tom Green County Young Lawyers Association, a former gubernatorial appointee to the Texas Protect Our Kids Commission. Dusek received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a Juris Doctor degree from Texas Tech University School of Law.
