We are approaching severe weather season on the South Plains which means the debate over tornado sirens will pick back up. This week, a citizens advisory committee will take a look at proposals for new siren technology. The debate for many comes down to technology and reliability. In 2014, when most people have smart phones or have access to weather radios, are sirens really needed? Some would say no, while others would point out that you cant rely on new technology either. Cell phone towers can go down and as we've seen before cell phone service can be hurt when emergencies arise.

What do you think about tornado sirens? Do we need them in Lubbock?
