On Lubbock's First News Tuesday morning, District 83 Representative Charles Perry (R- Lubbock) spoke with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the Special Election for Senate District 28 as well as the censure of University of Texas System Regent Wallace Hall, who had been accused of using his influence and power to oust University of Texas at Austin President Bill Powers.

Perry advised that he had voted against the censure of Hall, after about 15 months of testimony in committee, where some of Hall's ability to share his side of the story had been limited. Perry was the only member of the committee voting against the censure, but believes that it is not the role of the legislature to interject in the day-to-day running of the higher education system.

"The man was doing his job, in the sense that he was trying to make sure the university was operating above board and transparently. His methods were not something I approve of."

Perry also informed listeners about a fund raiser for his Senate District 28 race being held at the home of Dan and Lisa Wilson tonight, Tuesday, August 12 at 5:30pm. The address for the event is 4004 113th Street. Early voting for the SD 28 Special Election begins August 25.

Five other candidates are running in the Special Election for SD 28. They are: Delwin Jones, Jodey Arrington, E.M. Garza, Kerry Douglas McKennon and Greg Wortham.
