On the Tuesday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Lubbock City Council District 5 councilwoman Karen Gibson spoke with Chad Hasty about her re-election campaign.

Gibson said that, according to what she's heard, water is the biggest issue facing District 5. With the city set to go into Stage 2 water restriction on June 1st, Gibson said that everyone needs to start focusing on conservation and taking their water usage seriously.

"One thing we have to look at is the conservation issue. Everyone should be responsible for their area. Everybody in this city has to take responsibility. I don't care if you're on city water, if you're on well water, it doesn't matter. You have to take responsibility for conserving water."

Gibson also talked about the synthetic marijuana ban, an issue that she played a major role in enacting. She said that, despite what her opponent Brian Carr said, the city does not have the power to make possession of synthetic drugs a felony, and that she believes she is handling the matter in the right way. Gibson also spoke about some future projects facing the council like the building of a new police station, something she believes the city should be responsible for.

Early voting for the local elections begins on Monday, April 28th, and election day is May 10th.
