The sign-up for a program to assist some dairy producers will end soon.

Lubbock County USDA Farm Service Agency reminds dairy producers that the deadline to sign up for Milk Income Loss Contract benefits is September 30th, 2012.

The MILC program has not been extended by legislation past the deadline, as part of the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008.

“It is important that dairy producers provide final production evidence and any supporting documentation for eligible months that MILC was in effect by November 1st, 2012,” said Lubbock County USDA FSA Executive Director Clay Evans.

MILC compensates dairy producers when domestic milk prices fall below a specified level.
