The deadline to nominate candidates for your area Farm Service Agency county committee is rapidly approaching.

The cut-off date for nominations to the county committees is August 1st. Elected county committee members serve a three-year term, and are responsible for making decisions on FSA disaster, conservation, commodity, and price support programs.

Lubbock County USDA Farm Service Agency Executive Director Cary Hanlin said “County committee members are a valuable asset because they are local producers who participate in FSA programs themselves and have a direct connection to farmers and ranchers in the community.”

Producers may nominate themselves or others as candidates, and organizations that represent minority and women farms and ranchers may also nominate candidates.

County Committees are comprised of three to five members elected by local producers, and all newly elected members and alternates will take office January 2nd, 2012.
