The two biggest things Webb says he has improved on is his maturity and his consistency, both of which he had a problem with in 2014. But if Webb wants to win the starting quarterback job, he must go through Patrick Mahomes.

1340 The Fan's Rob Snyder and Aaron Brodie sat down with Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb to talk about the 2015 season at this year's Texas Tech football media day.

Webb talked about the difference in his approach from his sophomore year to his junior year.

"I'm more motivated... I'm relentlessly competitive to win this job," said Webb, adding: "This team can leave a legacy like they did in 2008."

When Snyder asked Webb if this was the most hungry he has been in his whole football career, his response went one step further.

"My whole life...I've always had people doubt me since 7th grade B team QB, and my middle school coach told me I probably couldn't play in high school and I probably should stick to hockey."

That doubt only fueled Webb.

"I kept going. Every goal I set, I have reached," he said. "There's not been one goal I have failed. I felt the same way about this competition."

Webb also spoke to the competition he and fellow and quarterback Patrick Mahomes have had all off-season.

"Me and Pat are really good friends, we worked out at 7:45 every morning. If I'm lifting weights I'm looking at his rack... running sprints, I'm looking right and he's looking left," said Webb.

The quarterback also revealed that he and Mahomes not only have made each other better with this competition, but everyone around them has thrived because of it, too.

Webb told 1340 The Fan that he's using the 4-8 2014 season as motivation to be better this year.

"The thing that motivates me the most as a person is to be the best I can be, which I know the best I can be is pretty dang good," said Webb. He also feels like he has more ownership of this team and that makes him a better leader.
