Lubbock Power and Light has hired a new assistant director of electric utilities.

The City-owned utility announced the hiring of David McCalla on Tuesday to the position.

McCalla recently served as general manager for Greenville Electric Utility System and is the former president of the Texas Public Power Association.

He earned a degree in electrical engineering from Texas Tech, and has more than 34 years of experience in the electrical utility system.

“David performed with great distinction in his role as general manager of Greenville Electric Utility System and is well respected throughout the industry,” said Gary Zheng, LP&L president and CEO. “We are proud to welcome him back home to Lubbock.”

McCalla’s job will focus on system reliability, strategic planning, customer service, and daily operations of all staff.

He will begin at LP&L on June 9th, 2014.
