A Lubbock native will take the top leadership role for a an electric utility group.

David Hudson has been named as president and CEO of Southwestern Public Service Company, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy.

Riley Hill, who has served as president and CEO of Xcel Energy since 2009, will move to Denver to assume the role of vice president, Energy Supply, overseeing Xcel’s fleet of power generating stations throughout the company’s eight-state operations.

Hudson began his career as a rate engineer in SPS’s rates and regulation department in 1983. He held several positions before becoming director of regulatory administration in 1997. He has also been in charge of SPS’s strategic planning and customer and community relations.

He received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Texas Tech in 1983 and a master’s degree in business administration from West Texas A&M University in 1990.

Hudson will begin in the position on December 31st, 2013.
