Friday on The Chad Hasty Show, Dan Pope, candidate for Mayor of Lubbock, joined Chad in the KFYO studio to talk about his plans if he is elected, and his views on fiscal issues of the city.

Pope and Hasty discussed what Pope sees as top priorities for the city, such as the hiring of a new City Manager, the ongoing LP&L and water issues, downtown redevelopment, and the city's spending and debt problems.

When asked by Hasty about how the city can get control of it's debt, Pope responded, "Right now, the [City] Council, you know that hand is dealt to the Council, that debt's been issued. So, you're disciplined about paying it down. You want to make sure you make the right decisions when there's an opportunity to refinance, or what they call a re-funding in the bond markets. You look for those kind of opportunities to drive down your costs."

Pope continued describing the discipline needed to control Lubbock's debt, saying,

Our debt picture's going to get a lot better. We just need to be disciplined to keep it down.
