When Dakota Allen made his return to Texas Tech, the Red Raider defense was in shambles. Tech could not stop a nose bleed, as they were ranked dead last in total defense during the 2016 season. Insert the returning, Dakota Allen. While the Red Raider defense still had a few holes, they finished 96th in total defense this year which is way better that the 128th they ranked the season before and a big reason was the return of Allen.

With the announcement of Dakota coming back for his senior season, a CBS Sports article of the top 25 returning college football players featured the linebacker as #14 on the list.

Allen finished the 2017 year with 102 total tackles for the Red Raiders. He also finished with 2 sacks, a forced fumble, and 2 interceptions in an up year for the Texas Tech defense. With Allen returning for his senior season to help anchor the Red Raider defense, he is a must watch player in college football with a lot left to prove.
