The annual Cumberland Presbyterian Church "Pumpkin Patch" will open to the public next weekend. The "Pumpkin Patch" will be open to the public on Saturday, September 29th with business hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Hours on Sunday will be from 1-7 p.m.

The patch will be open until October 31st and will feature gourds, maize, hay bales and other fall decorative items will be on sale. The "Pumpkin Patch" is located on the front lawn of Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 7702 Indiana Avenue.

The event is an annual fundraiser for Christian outreach programs of the church and also benefits programs such as the South Plains chapter of the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and many others have received support in past years.

Children's activities at the Cumberland "Pumpkin Patch" include story time at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hundreds of children from pre-school through elementary come to the event each year on field trips  to hear ghost stories, shop for pumpkins, and have their photo taken among the pumpkins.

The pumpkins are obtained the pumpkins from an American Indian tribe in New Mexico and conduct the sale of the pumpkins. The proceeds for the tribe go to benefit improvements on their reservation.
