On Wednesday, January 27,  the Lubbock Police Department SWAT team will conduct a training exercise at Covenant Medical Center.

The purpose of this exercise is to assess the ability of the hospital and law enforcement to jointly respond to a Code Silver, which is a person with a weapon and or a hostage.

Training will begin at 10 a.m. and last until approximately 2 p.m. in the old children’s emergency room located at 21st St. and Louisville Avenue.

Volunteers and nearly 60 Covenant employees will be used as role players in the scenario.

Covenant Health is preparing to host a larger-scaled drill again sometime this summer.
