U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman announced Monday he'll challenge incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the 2014 Texas Republican primary for the U.S. Senate.

In a campaign press release, Stockman said “I am  extremely disappointed in the way [Cornyn] treated his fellow congressmen and broke the 11th commandment and undermined Ted Cruz’s fight to stop Obamacare. We think he needs to be held accountable for his decisions."

Stockman currently represents Texas's 36th congressional district.

Stockman previously served as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 9th congressional district from 1995 to 1997. Stockman's first foray into Texas politics was in 1990, when he ran against Democrat Jack Brooks.

He recently gained notoriety when he invited rock musician Ted Nugent to accompany him to the White House Correspondents Dinner.
