According to Business Insider, Lubbock's Kmart store is one of 64 scheduled to be closed by the end of the year. However, there are conflicting reports about this being the case.

KAMC News spoke to a manager at the Lubbock store, Kmart #4972, who said they had not heard the store will close.

According to KAMC, confirmation of the closing store was released from the mother company, Sears Holding Corporation, on Friday. No postings have been listed of the store closing on the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification network with the Texas Workforce Commission, said the site.

Abilene's Kmart location and the Kmart in Harlingen are also listed on the website as one of the stores getting ready to close its doors with a liquidation sale beginning September 22nd.
