Would Lubbock’s congressman accept a tax increase as part of a compromise on the debt ceiling if significant spending cuts were part of the bargain?   Apparently not.

With time running out on the debt ceiling negotiations, Rep. Randy Neugebauer is not budging from his previous statements about taxes.

“The administration says, ‘By the way, we need $18 billion more for this program.  We need $20 more for this program.  So that’s the reason we need a little bit more tax revenues,’ ” Neugebauer said.

“You know, I don’t think taxes are the answer,” Neugebauer told KFYO.  “It’s a spending problem.

Neugebauer said he would support tax reform.
