On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Congressman Randy Neugebauer spoke with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the latest going on in Washington.

As of this morning, the Senate has not yet come up with a budget plan. Neugebauer said the House needs to see this budget plan before they can start discussing the debt ceiling issue. He also mentioned that a bill is in the works that could prevent the Senate from getting paid if they do not come up with a budget. Neugebauer said it was ridiculous that the Senate has not developed a budget yet, particularly since he believes the Senate is partially responsible for the huge deficit facing the country,.

"People say "Well then, how did we did get to owing $16.4 trillion?" Well how we got here is the Senate has not been a participant in efforts to try to reduce these monstrous deficits. They haven't even passed a budget. Families have to have budgets, businesses have to have budgets, and we think the country needs a budget, particularly when we're on track to run another over trillion dollar deficit again this year."

Neugebauer also spoke about the importance of a balanced budget, as well as his observations of today's presidential inauguration.
