There has been little change on the fiscal cliff front, according to Neugebauer. And with the year coming to a close in the next few weeks, he said that if anything is to change in the talks, it has to occur in the next few days. However, Neugebauer said that he was discouraged that the debate has been all about taxes and not address the real problem of government spending.

“I look at it this way: when someone has a drug and alcohol problem, the last thing they need is more drugs and more alcohol…when someone in your family has a spending problem, the answer is not to give them more money to spend. And the debate has been about giving the government that spends too much more money. And really what the debate should be about and focused on is this spending issue.”

Neugebauer also gave his thoughts on the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut over the weekend and offered his condolences to the victims and their families.

You can listen to Congressman Randy Neugebauer Mondays at 7:35 during Lubbock’s First News on NewsTalk 790 KFYO.
