On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the latest going on in Washington.

The Farm Bill continue to make progress through Congress, as the Agriculture committee will finally start writing the bill next week. Although the Farm Bill will help out farmers all across the nation, Neugebauer said one of the most important parts of the bill for West Texas farmers will be the crop insurance portion. He added that this was of particular important because of the unpredictable weather affecting West Texas farmers every year.

"The best case scenario for the West Texas farmer is for us to get a reasonable safety net. And one of the things we hear a lot about is having crop insurance. Everybody understand the concept of insurance...when producers plant these crops, they need insurance in case of bad weather patterns and hail and all types of other circumstances that could impact their ability to make a crop. And so one of the aspects of this current Farm Bill that we'll be working on is to make sure we have good, strong crop insurance program."

Neugebauer also discussed the latest in Syria and what options could be available in dealing with them. He stressed the need for America to have partners and/or allies in that region, and that the issues in the Middle East were simply too big for America to handle on its own.
