On the Friday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked with Chad Hasty about today's sequestration.

Tonight at midnight, the sequester will take effect, resulting in $85 billion in across-the-board "budget cuts." However, according to Neugebauer, sequestration isn't so much a cut as it is a "de-acceleration" in the rate of spending, and a very small de-acceleration at that. But even though he agrees it's not the best way to reduce spending, he thinks much of the fear mongering and "doom and gloom" talk the Democrats are doing about the sequestration is unnecessary.

"If these agencies can't go in there and trim a few percentage points off of their budgets, then we've got much bigger problems than that, because this only address a very small percentage of the overall deficit."

Neugebauer also took a listener's question concerning zero budgeting and base-line budgeting. He said that he would prefer to see the country return to the zero budgeting, since base-line budgeting is actually contribution more to the debt instead of solving it.
