Representative for Texas' 19th Congressional District Randy Neugebauer called into Lubbock's First News Monday and talked to Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the Ebola virus outbreak and the impact it could have on the United States.

Neugebauer said he is disturbed by President Barack Obama asking Congress to send large amounts of money to Africa to try and get a handle on the epidemic while many U.S. allies and partner countries don't seem to be stepping to the proverbial plate to help supply resources to find a solution.

Neugebauer and his Congressional cohorts continue to receive daily briefings on this as well as other subjects even though they are in recess.

The congressman also said that stopping the epidemic at its source is essential to prevent it from spreading to other continents. He is disappointed in the effort that other nations and world organizations have put forth to help prevent the spread of the virus.

"Why are we sending only U.S. forces over there? Why isn't the United Nations? And they have the World Health Organization, there are a number of organizations that are getting funding," he said. "The question I have is why aren't they on the front line there?"
