On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the latest going on in Washington.

Neugebauer cleared up a few questions concerning the recent congressional pay raise. He clarified that the pay raise was by executive order, not by Congressional decision. He also added that he believes Congress should not receive a pay raise when they are still trying to figure out how to solve the debt deficit problem.

"If [people] felt like the fiscal cliff was over after that vote last week, that's not the case. The real fiscal cliff here is this huge deficit that we're running. We're still on track now for the fifth year in a row to have a trillion dollar deficit...we don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem, and for whatever reason this President has his head buried in the sand about that."

Neugebauer said that the government has to start living within its means if they ever want to relieve this deficit. Neuegbauer also discussed the latest with the Farm Bill extension and Al Gore's decision to sell Current TV to Al Jazeera.
