More charges have been filed in a Clovis homicide that took place last week.

Just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6th, Curry County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Clovis Police Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of North Wheaton Road in Clovis.

A witness had called police, and said that they saw a man get shot. Deputies found 35-year-old Shondel D. Lofton of Clovis dead by a gunshot wound to the head.

Police began interviewing witnesses near the scene and discovered that two women had been abducted at gunpoint and taken hostage in their van by the homicide suspect across Wheaton Road off Charles Reese Road in Curry County.

Just a few moments later, a home owner called police, and said a man at his door was holding a woman at gunpoint on the porch of a house on Rope Road. Officers responded, and the homeowner fired his gun, distracting the suspect, and a New Mexico State Police Officer took the suspect, 31-year-old Jimmy J. Reagan of Clovis, into custody.

The hostages were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, but were not seriously injured.
