The controversial basketball hoop sitting in the cul-de-sac of 77th St. in residential Southwest Lubbock was removed by the city Monday, June 15.

In compliance with a city ordinance, the hoop had to be taken down as it was deemed to be blocking the right of way.

KAMC News reports the hoop owners, Jason and Kacy Plott, were surprised when a warning involving the hoop's removal turned citation, saying it had been in the same location for years with no complaint.

The family even attempted to fight the ordinance in City Council, but following mixed reviews by the panel, the Plotts claimed they would acquiesce to the city's demands until the ordinance could be changed.

Clearly, the grace period on the owner's chance to remove the goal themselves expired, resulting in the City of Lubbock's taking the hoop Monday afternoon.
