The City of Lubbock has filed a court petition regarding a well-known apartment building.

The City filed the petition regarding the Park Tower Apartments, located at 27th Street and Avenue Q, specifically citing long-standing concerns over occupant and firefighter safety.

According to a press release from the City, the fire marshal and building inspectors recommended filing the petition, after working unsuccessfully with the building’s owner to resolve multiple safety issues.

The City of Lubbock says that the owner has repeatedly failed to meet multiple agreements with the City to correct the safety issues.

The petition has been filed with the Lubbock Municipal Court, where the judge will decide whether to repair, remove, or demolish the building. The petition is scheduled for the June 27th docket.

No action is currently required by current occupants of Park Tower until after the ruling.
