On Thursday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Latrelle Joy, candidate for City Council District 6, talked with Chad and Rex about her run for city council.

Joy said that one of the biggest issues she's heard from the voters is the city's lack of communication with its citizens. She said the city needs to make an effort to allow its citizens time to come forward and communicate with the council.

"A lot of people I've talked to feel like they find out at the last minute, and they don't feel like they have an opportunity to express an opinion or to even talk to anybody about what their concerns are."

Joy also talked about the difference between taxes and fees. She said that the two are somewhat meshed together, and that if the city can't raise one, they'll raise the other. Joy also said the city needs to do a thorough examination of the budget before they talk about raising taxes.

Joy also spoke about such issues as downtown redevelopment, the city charter, and what she thinks are the core services of the city of Lubbock.
