Late Tuesday night, State Rep. Charles Perry and Jodey Arrington issued statements after the results of the Special Election for Texas Senate District 28 become known.

Arrington finished second in the election at 30.2%. He said, "This has been a wonderful experience for my family and me.  We met thousands of great people throughout the District and made a lot of new friends in the process.

"When we started this campaign, we had little name recognition, little organization and even less time.  However, thanks to the hard work of my incredible volunteers and supporters, we nearly reached our goal of a runoff.  Tonight we can hold our heads high knowing that we gave it our all.  I congratulate Charles and wish him the best as our next State Senator.  While the campaign is over, my commitment to fighting for a brighter and more prosperous future for West Texas will never end."

Charles Perry (pictured) won the election outright with 53.3% of the vote. He said, "I am honored that the citizens of Senate District 28 have selected me to fill Chancellor Robert Duncan's vacated senate seat. From day one to Election Day, our work ethic never subsided and our grassroots army truly turned out the vote.

"Throughout this campaign, I made an effort to visit as many constituents as possible from all 51 counties in the district. I look forward to providing common sense, conservative leadership to the entire district - communities large and small.

"This race was a team effort and I am very thankful for all of the volunteers that made phone calls, walked blocks, put up signs and handed out literature to their local clubs. I had the best team in the state and I will always owe them a debt of gratitude for their enthusiasm and work ethic over the course of this campaign.

"I would like to thank Governor Rick Perry for going ahead and calling this election early and allowing West Texas to gain much needed seniority and get back to work.

"Of course I couldn't have done this without the loving support of my wonderful wife Jacklyn and children, Jordan and Matthew. I appreciate their patience and moral support throughout this campaign.

"For the next few months, I will turn my focus towards ensuring a Republican sweep in November and securing both a super-majority in the Senate and House."
