Late Monday, Charles Moster announced he has withdrawn his candidacy for Lubbock City Council District 6.

Moster would have challenged incumbent Council Rep. Latrelle Joy in the election for City Council District 6.

Moster released a statement concerning his withdrawal:

I wanted to report to you that I have regrettably decided to withdraw from the race for city council. My decision is based on the realities of the time commitment and the adverse affect on my family and practice. In the brief time I was involved, I met many wonderful and dedicated people who contribute their time and energy selflessly for the people of Lubbock. I am thankful for that experience and hope that my withdrawal will create an opportunity for another candidate to enter the race.

There is still time for potential District 6 candidates to jump into the race before the filing deadline. The candidate filing deadline is Friday, February 19.

Latrelle Joy was first elected to the Lubbock City Council in 2012.
