Time to Thin the Herd?

There are still many people running for President in the Republican field and many of them are just wasting everyone's time. I still think that it is a shame that Rick Perry and Scott Walker dropped out. They were both qualified candidates with great ideas and either one should have been a top tier candidate.

Having said that, there are more than a few Republican candidates that I would like to see drop out. Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, George Pataki, Lindsey Graham, and Jim Gilmore are obvious choices. Out of that group, I really only like Jindal but he has just not picked up any kind of momentum. These candidates are still in, but they are basically picking up 0-1% in the polls. No one notices them and they aren't really hurting anyone.

Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich, and yes even Rand Paul are among the second group that should think about exiting the group. I'd like Paul to stay in because of his ideas and the fact that he brings different points of view into the race. None of them will be the nominee, so why waste our time?

Christie and Huckabee both had their moments, but those moments have faded away. Christie did well during Wednesday's debate, but I don't think it will be enough to help him in the polls. John Kasich is a Jeb Bush clone and Jeb Bush is barely a top-tier candidate after Wednesday's debate.

Most of these candidates won't drop until after Iowa, but I think the thinning of the herd should begin sooner. Like today.
