Members of Tech’s Chess Team will travel to Tromso in Norway this August to compete in the World Chess Olympiad. According to Texas Tech, the tournament is treated like the Olympics of chess – with high honors and bragging rights.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, Detective Bryan DuBois responded to a burglary-in-progress call in the 4100 block of 109th Street. DuBois pulled over a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood and discovered the driver had an outstanding warrant and had many stolen items in the vehicle. Jose Manuel Calderon, 19, was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Jail.

Texas Tech University accepted a research investment today from the Deer Breeders Corporation. The investment in support of a white-tailed deer and cervids research program totaled more than $850,000. Tech researchers at The Institute of Environmental and Human Health, led by associate professors Ernest Smith and Steve Presley said the investment provides unique research opportunities.
