A new post on the conservative blog Ricochet gives a fairly concise overview of the long battle between Texas, Oklahoma and the federal government for land and mineral rights along the Red River, through an unlikely, but familiar tale.

The river forms part of the border between Texas and Oklahoma and is petroleum rich. Texas has been embroiled in conflict for some 900,000 acres of land and has even taken the issue before the United States Supreme Court before.

Currently, seven families in Texas are suing the Bureau of Land Management for arbitrary seizure of their land, Many conservative Texas politicians are showing their support for the case, including Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush.

Blogger Leigh Thompson’s post gives a brief history of Texas and the century-long conflict through the familiar tale of Star Wars. For some, this may be the first time the conflict holds more meaning and is definitely worth a read.
