TexasTech.com announced that embattled Men's Basketball Coach Billy Gillispie has resigned.

Gillispie submitted his resignation to Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and was accepted by Hocutt. Hocutt said in statement,

"Billy has decided to focus on his health and we wish him a full recovery. We are proud of the young men that he has brought to this campus.

Billy's decision allows him to concentrate on his well-being and allows us to turn our attention to preparations for the upcoming season."

Associate Head Coach Chris Walker will continue to run the day to operations of the Men's Basketball program until an interim Head Coach is named for the 2012-13 season.

Gillispie has been surrounded by drama for the past month after reports from ESPN and CBS Sports spotlighted a player revolt against the embattled coach. Allegations of player mistreatment persisted and leading scorer Jordan Tolbert said to ESPN.com that he would not play for Gillispie if he returned.

Gillispie was 8-23 in his only season at Texas Tech.
