An annual event will be held next week.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock-Plainview will host its kick-off event on Thursday, May 1st, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

The event will be held at SERVPRO of Southwest Lubbock, located at 6101 43rd Street in Lubbock.

The event is part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters “Start Something Big” campaign.

The group is seeking to raise $100,000, as they aspire to serve 362 children in 2014, a 12.5 percent increase over last year.

Food will be provided by the Smokin’ Raider Tailgaters. Silent and live auctions will be available, and attendees will have the chance to win an autographed Steve Miller Stedman Pro guitar, two tickets to the Paul McCartney concert, pro golfer items, and more.

“We are really excited to make this event possible for the second year in a row,” said Amanda Tolley, marketing and recruitment director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock-Plainview. “We hope to see many people attend and help us kick-off this great campaign!”

Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s largest donor and volunteer-supported mentoring network, helps kids to achieve measurable outcomes such as educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, higher aspirations, and greater confidence.
