Baker Mayfield Officially Leaves Texas Tech Football Team
Mayfield, as a walk-on freshman, started seven games at quarterback for the Red Raiders in 2013. He battled through injuries and was named the Big 12 Conference's Freshman Offensive Player of the Year yesterday.
FOX Sports Southwest shed some light on why Mayfield left the Red Raiders:
(Mayfield) told coach Kliff Kingsbury of his plans to leave after learning that Michael Brewer would start the bowl game.
Mayfield will probably have to transfer to an FCS program. FBS teams (like Texas Tech) that allow players to transfer usually place stipulations upon which schools they can transfer to.
Texas Tech's other two quarterbacks that played in 2013, Michael Brewer and Davis Webb, are expected to return in 2014.
