The biggest news story right now on the South Plains is the weather. Not tornados or hail, but cold temperatures. Yes, it will be cold and uncomfortable, but it's no reason to freak out. In order to have a little fun before the temps fall, I thought we could use this blog for survival tips. They can be serious or light hearted tips depending on your mood while reading this. (more after the jump)

Tip #1: Listen to Ron Roberts on KFYO. Let's be honest, Ron runs the weather in Lubbock and if you want to know what's going to happen then you listen to him.

Tip #2: Bribe Ron Roberts. Tell Ron that you'd like to see the coldest weather miss Lubbock, and if he could arrange that, you would appreciate it. Shake Ron's hand and be sure the $100 bill goes from your hand to Ron's. Why $100? Ron is an important celebrity and anything less than $100 would be insulting and guaranteed to bring 10 plus inches of snow to your home.

Tip #3: Hoard food. This happens just about every time Lubbock experiences a winter storm. People flock to the stores to load up on canned goods and water even though the snow will only be around a short time. Still, you don't want to be that person who doesn't hoard food and have to ask your neighbor for Twinkies.

Tip #4: Firewood. Get some firewood ready. This can help cut down on your heating bill and could lead to a romantic situation. If the romantic situation does happen, then body heat will also go a long way in keeping you alive over the next 3 days. It would also be good to have wine and chocolate on hand incase a romantic situation occurs. You can easily handle this if you listen to tip # 3.

Tip #5: Bring in the pets. Yes, even the cats.

Tip #6: Make sure you do everything you need to do in order to prevent your pipes from freezing then bursting. Romantic situations will be ruined by this.

Tip #7: Listen to LFN in the mornings to hear about any school closings.
