Astronauts to Visit Texas Tech Campus

Two astronauts and an astronomer will be on Texas Tech University’s campus next week to entertain and educate a group of 950 high school students and teachers.

Former astronaut and current dean of engineering at Texas Tech University Al Sacco, NASA Astronaut Joseph Acaba and astronomer and visual artist Jose Francisco Salgado will appear as part of STEAM day at Texas Tech. Steam is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.

Salgado will present a film Science thru Art, a film based on Salgado’s work as an astronomer, photographer and artist. Acaba and Sacco will discuss their path to becoming an astronomer as well as their experiences with NASA.

The presentations will take place at the Allen Theatre in Tech’s Student Union Building on October 6, from 10a.m. to 2p.m.
