Another State-Mandated Test for Texas Students — Will They Be Ready?

The newest state-mandated test is the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR for short. On Lubbock’s First News on KFYO, Dr. David Vroonland, the superintendent of Frenship ISD, talked about the test.
“At this point, what we’ve done with STAAR, what we did with TAKS…was testing at way too many grade levels,” Vroonland said. “It’s unnecessary, and frankly, it’s costly to the state. We could reduce that, and it wouldn’t have any impact.”
Vroonland expects the new test to be “more rigorous.”
