“The rain obviously was welcome.”

That was the reaction from Mayor Tom Martin on Lubbock’s First News on KFYO, the morning after strong thunderstorms brought much needed rain to the area.  It was good news for Lubbock residents and for animals.

“With the playa lakes drying up over the months, it’s a real problem for wildlife," Martin said.  " My wife volunteers for the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and they’ve had so big an increase in the amount of wild animals that have been brought into to the center this year.”

The problem, of course was lack of water.  Tuesday’s rain helps, but unfortunately, not everyone received rain.
