During Friday's edition of Lubbock's First News on KFYO, Amie Duemer of the South Plains Kidney Foundation talked about a new kidney clinic coming to Lubbock.

There are now four kidney transplant centers in Lubbock. Although no transplants are actually done in Lubbock, patients can benefit from a number of services from the new clinic.

"What we do locally, since there are no transplants that are done here in Lubbock, we actually do work out classes, we do the protocols for those transplant centers in those areas, we do all the work ups locally, the patients go to those areas for the transplant, they stay there several weeks after, and then they return back to their home area and follow up in Lubbock," Duemer explained.

There is an upcoming South Plains Kidney Foundation "Walk and Roll" event taking place July 12th at Mackenzie Park. This is a fundraiser that starts with registration at 7:30AM, and includes a one mile walk and a 5k run. For a $30 donation, you can also get a t-shirt. All donations will stay in the local community.
