AlphaTex Kennel Owners Found Not Guilty on Animal Cruelty Charges

A Canyon jury this evening found the owners of Floydada-based AlphaTex Kennels not guilty on animal cruelty charges. The jury needed a half-hour to deliberate after the closing arguments were made by attorneys.
The trial against Mark and Sandra Smith lasted all week in Canyon (Randall County), after being moved from its original venue in Floyd County.
KVII 7 in Amarillo reports that Mark Smith took the stand today. He described how heartbroken he was when over 200 dogs were seized from AlphaTex last September. The aforementioned raid on AlphaTex was conducted by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and Humane Society of West Texas.
No word on if, or when, the seized dogs will be returned to AlphaTex Kennels.
