An Abilene Independent School District administrator charged with a second-degree felony for having an improper relationship with a student has an extensive history in Lubbock.

The 29-year-old arrestee Michael Trook, dean of sciences at Holland Medical School, resigned Wednesday, December 17, and was concurrently booked into the Taylor County Jail. Trook posted a $50,000 bond and walked free later that day.

It wasn’t made clear what activities Trook was engaged with the student in, but a letter from Abilene ISD Superintendent Heath Burns said, “Mr. Trook, administrator, has admitted to having engaged in inappropriate, unprofessional and unethical conduct.”

Trook’s LinkedIn profile list him as working for the Lubbock Independent School District as a coach from 2007-2012, Texas Tech University as an adjunct faculty member from 2008-present and as an online instructor for the TTU Independent School District from 2012-present. His profile also lists him as a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and a member of the Texas Girls Coaching Association.

“The district is committed to working with the Abilene Police Department, and other agencies and investigations continue,” Burns said in a letter to parents, staff and students of Holland Medical School. “His behavior is an embarrassment to me and other Abilene ISD team members that take great pride in serving and caring for all students. He will suffer significant consequences for his choice, and he is no longer welcome on school premises.”

Calls made concerning Trook’s current work status at Texas Tech have not been returned.
