It's always scary to hear these new disease or virus coming to Amarillo.  Well, there is a virus that has made it's way back to Amarillo and it sounds disgusting!

An intestinal bacteria known as, C Difficile, has returned to Amarillo and is affecting tons of residents in the area.  According to WEBMD, this bacteria enters the intestines and overgrows release toxins that attack the lining of the intestines.

Although it is rare, it can cause all kinds of problems including massive diarrhea.  It is such a strong bacteria that it can even cause death.  Well, it has made it's way back to Amarillo.

Some of the symptoms include fainting, hot flashes, indigestion, loss of appetite, blood or pus in your stool, and watery diarrhea up to 15 times per day.

There are currently three antibiotics to treat C Diff, but the bacteria is very resistant to two of those.  Local researchers at Texas Tech are doing research to try and find a solution to combat this terrible bacteria.

There are ways to prevent infection.  WASH YOUR HANDS!  Hand sanitizer has not been proven effective.  Doctors recommend that you should wash your hands consistently with soap and water for at least 30 seconds to prevent spreading of this bacteria.
